STILL HOT! CLINTON HILL/FORT GREENE SIZZLES IN SEPTEMBER

There’s no question Clinton Hill/Fort Greene is hot…..and not just the restaurants, bars and real estate, but its schools and human resources too. St. Joseph’s College has been given high marks by both U.S. News & World Report and Forbes. Childrens boutique Brooklyn Junior was featured in the summer issue of Time Out New York magazine.  Green in BKLYN was featured in The Hill, and as the Store of the Week on the SkinnySkinny blog; and Clinton Hill artist and art handler, Shane Caffrey, is listed as one of Ten Young Artists You Should Know in The L Magazine

During this month local organizations, businesses and residents will keep the heat on with a host of fun events.  Here is a partial listing of things you can do without the hassle of a long-distance trek. 

 
MOVE ABOUT MYRTLE:  A month of Sunday events, from Hall St. to Clermont Ave., kicks off on Sunday, September 5 with a Back to School Celebration for the entire family: music, dance, art, cooking, street games and more.  Green in BKLYN, says they’ll be going all out with special events such as a local honey extraction, electronic waste drive, book drive, book signings, compost chats & so much more! BACK TO SCHOOL BASH @ HABANA OUTPOST
Monday, September 6, 12:00–5:00, 757 Fulton Street (So. Portland)
Stilt walkers, clowns, face painting, games, prizes, crafts, a dance party and free notebooks and pencils for all school aged children while supplies last.


MOVIES @ HABANA OUTPOST

BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL
Sunday, September 12, 10:00-6:00, Various locations.  Includes three days of parties, music, film screenings, children's theatre, literary games and author appearances that "bookend" the festival, September 10th, 11th and 12th.

Bookend events In Fort Greene: Greenlight Bookstore hosts, Brooklyn Indie Press Celebration, offering you a chance to mingle with writers and publishers who make Brooklyn’s literary scene.  Refreshments and DJs Johnny Temple and Dave Tompkins fill out the evening.  Friday, September 10, 7:30 pm, free.   BAM Rose Cinemas screens The Sweet Hereafter, an adaptation of Russell Banks’s novel, directed by Atom Egoyan.  Q&A with Russell Banks follows screening on Friday, September 10, 7:30 pm, $12 general admission, $8 (BAM Cinema Club members).   For a full Brooklyn Book Festival schedule visit the BBF website.

GOOD FOOD FEST
Sunday, September 12, 12:00-3:00, Myrtle Avenue (Clinton/Vanderbilt). Street fair to raise awareness about sustainable living and healthy, delicious and affordable food. Features interactive cooking demos, food tastings, a best dish competition, recipe swaps, canning, beekeeping and other DIY demos, activities for children, and live music. FULTON FLEA
Sunday, September 12, 10:30-6:30, 650 Fulton Street (So. Elliott/Fort Greene) Product includes clothing, jewelry, accessories and collectibles.  There will also be a "Creation Station" where you are the designer.  Fulton Flea takes place Sundays through October 31.  If you would like to be a vendor, fees are $30 for a 5x10 space and $50 for a 10x10 space.  Table rentals are available for $10 and reservations must be made by noon on Wednesday, September 8.

Urban Bush Women Presents “Praise House” Film Screening
Wednesday, September 15, 7:00, The Great Room - A.R.T. NY building 138 S. Oxford Street, 2nd Floor (Hanson/Atlantic)
This 1991 from acclaimed director, Julie Dash, is based on Jawole's dance theater ensemble work, Praise House.  It explores the search for liberation and cultural identity within the African Diaspora through the cultural elements of myth, religion and history. $15 admission. $5 of every ticket goes to supporting UBW's Juneteenth partnerships.
