FINAL DAYS OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATIONS IN CLINTON HILL & FORT GREENE

 COMMUNITY COLLABORATIVE ART EXHIBIT
Through February 28, various locations
In honor of Black History Month the Fort Greene Association (FGA) produced this public exhibit featuring the works of three local Fort Greene/Clinton Hill artists with ties to Pratt Institute. Works by Ryan Jones, a Pratt Fine Arts student, Jamillah Jennings, Pratt alumna, and Kikelomo Amusa-Shonubi, also a Pratt alumna, may be seen at 395 Flatbush Avenue Extension. Work from Josh Friedman is at Fort Greene SNAP, 324 Myrtle Avenue | Carlton/Washington Park, and a piece created by developmentally disabled adults from Brooklyn Day Hab is at Kiki’s Pet Spa & Boutique, 239 Dekalb Avenue | Vanderbilt/Clermont.  The works exhibited at  Flatbush Avenue Extension are for sale by the artists; a portion of the proceeds will be donated to fund a program created by the FGA to encourage local youth facing financial hardships to attend college.

Exhibits Re-Imagining Haiti: Le Projet Nouveau and Re-Imagining Haiti: Standing With Papa Legba, are now on view through May 8.  On Wednesday, February 23, 6:30-8:30pm, MoCADA and the Haiti Cultural Exchange will host a Literary Salon featuring, Haiti Noir, the new anthology edited by award-winning Haitian-American author, Edwidge Danticat. Some of the contributing authors will read from the book and speak about their work in relation to the idea of “re-imagining” Haiti. A book signing will take place at the conclusion of the evening.


LIVING HISTORY, A TRIBUTE TO EXCELLENCE

LIU students recognize the accomplishments of the current generation of successful local African American leaders who inspire others as they build a legacy of their own.  The evening includes a special performance by honoree Obediah Wright’s company, Balance Dance Theatre.  A reception follows. The music ministry of Elim hosts a free concert featuring critically acclaimed soprano Audrey Harris, the Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble, all-male choral group Manifest, Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir, and the Elim Cathedral Choir.
